IWM23 workshop - discuss online resources for worms other than C. elegans

Dear Dr. Kishore, Harris, Cain, Raciti, van Auken and all Wormbase staff,

My name is Itai Toker, I am a postdoc in the Hobert lab. I am organizing a workshop for the upcoming worm meeting in Glasgow entitled “expanding the worm model repertoire”, which will focus on research done in worms other than C. elegans. The workshop’s aims are to unite together researchers with common interests and dealing with common challenges of working with other species, to share recent technical advances that make new species more accessible for mechanistic inquiries, and hopefully to convince C. elegans researchers that now is the best time to adopt new species in their labs.

I am contacting you personally because a big portion of the workshop will be devoted to an open discussion involving the audience and panelists. One of the topics we surely plan to address are the online resources that assist research in various worms: what resources are available for other worms, what is missing and could ease ongoing and future research, how as a community could we improve existing resources and efficiently feed them with new data, etc.

Given your expertise at Wormbase, your perspective would be extremely valuable. I am therefore warmly inviting you to come to the workshop so that we could hear your insight and comments on the subject, exchange ideas, and hopefully generate opportunities for new collaborations.

I included in this email the participants of the Wormbase workshop and the general Wormbase email addresses as they appear online. If you know of more online resources experts (Wormbase or not) that plan to be in Glasgow please feel free to forward my invitation to them or point me in their direction so that I can contact them myself.

The workshop will take place on Monday June 26th at 1PM (Clyde Auditorium). I hope to see you there.

Looking forward to meet you all in Glasgow and to fruitful discussions,

Best wishes,

Itai

Sarah will touch base with Paul S and contact Itai for possible plans of collaboration. Those who can attend the workshop will gather information to report back to the group.

Are there are any plans of getting a github copilot licence for the wormbase github organisation?

'DDoS' attack on WormBase web site

  • Prior attacks have been thwarted by measures like Fail2Ban. A successful attack broke through yesterday and resulted in help desk email flood. That may be circumvented with a simple captcha.
